Purge

We spent the weekend cleaning house. When I say cleaning house, I don’t mean washing floors or changing sheets. I mean emptying closets, drawers and toy areas.  Challenging ourselves with each item, do I use this, do I need this, do I have too much.  It is funny, I am the one who always wants to purge and am glad to purge my items, however at one point, Jarrod brings me four orange polo shirts, asking what shirt to keep.  “All”, I say.  I could not decide, they were all so nice and in such great shape. He starts talking to himself, “I am not going to wear all those shirts, I thought we were purging, this does not help me”  LOL.  It is amazing how much loose change we found in drawers and purses, little girl necklaces and little doll brushes in kitchen drawers.

The feeling of accomplishment swims over us when we finally sit down to eat lunch late afternoon.  Something crazy happens to us each time, we agree, we still have so much. The quest for less continues, but will wait for another day. It is nice to know as we clean our lives out, we are helping someone else who was looking for the perfect orange shirt!

Fall is a great time to weed out closets and drawers and you will be amazed how the air around you feels new again, not to mention knowing someone else will benefit from your donations.

The song to this post is one of my favorites. It is about time I introduce you to Matthew West.  You can’t just sit back and do nothing, every action has a reaction and we ALL can make a difference, even if it is just in our little place in the world.

  1. Someone must REALLY love orange polos!

I still have a significant shirt problem, but I like to pretend I’m getting better. I told myself this summer that if I bought something, I’d donate 2 of the same item. I bought a new NCSU hoodie so I will be purging 2 hoodies. 2 of the 8 I have. EIGHT! You’re totally right, even if we’re getting rid of things, we still have so much!

Also, having less options means that I don’t take as long to get dressed, which means it doesn’t take as long to leave!
