Ever Girl

I recently read that more girls are opting for super hero costumes this year than princess costumes. The tides are changing. What makes this fun fact even more interesting in my house, is Delaney has always loved princesses and this year she wants to be Super Girl. When we were talking about this she stopped me and said, “I invented a super hero. Want to hear about it?” OH YES I DO!!! I have never invented anything. She continued on, her name is Ever Girl and she can do anything. She has long blue hair, brown eyes and wears pretty skirts. As you can imagine, music to my ears. Maybe Delaney is channeling her inner fears to Ever Girl, hoping to overcome being afraid of the dark, learning to read or even speaking when in unfamiliar surroundings. By the way, I think the blue hair is a hint for me. She has been asking for a stripe of blue hair all summer.

I have been thinking about my super hero ever since that conversation. I think my super hero would be Sparkle Girl. She would be all glittery and happy, swoop in for some fun conversation and lots of hugs. She would remind you that you are perfect as you are, to be who you want, and to stop worrying about everyone else. When she left she would leave behind some glitter as a reminder of her visit, kind of like fairy dust.

So who is your inner super hero? What are her or his powers? Can you start using them today?

  1. I’d love both Sparkle Woman and Ever Girl!

Note about the blue hair: it grows back. Just a stripe is showing her independence and her personality (as if she needs any help). What if it was a clip on piece of hair? I was 13 when I wanted/got blue hair (the first time) and my Dad’s argument was that I could be doing way worse things than dying my hair blue, so if I was testing the waters with blue hair, then so be it, as long as I wasn’t having sex and doing drugs.
