I recently had the opportunity to speak on a panel with other women in the finance industry. One of the questions that came up was, “How do you define success?” Of course we had moments to share in our career; one was even that moment, just being on that panel was a success.
But what if success was much easier than that? What if success was being able to say each day – I gave my all, was my true self, made a difference somehow in this big world, and used my talents? I can tell you what would happen; more women would believe in themselves, see their value, and have self-confidence.
I understand the large nuggets of success. They really are worth it when you have taken years to accomplish the task and possibly faced many obstacles, however, once that moment is over, it is over. Now it is just a memory of a success.
I want to challenge all of us to celebrate success each day, in little nuggets.
Were you able to make it through the day without any child injured? Success!
All the wash is done and nothing was ruined because you missed the instructions? Success!
Did you get all your work tasks complete and find a moment to grab a tea with a friend? Success!
Did you make a dinner that was actually good? Success! (My food is food. It is never really good or bad, just food to eat. If someone really enjoyed it, it is a small celebration in my head.)
Were you able to grab a run? Success!
Did you get to spend alone time with your special someone? Success!
Quick phone call with a friend, sister or your mom (pick that person you have been trying to contact)? Success!
Lastly, as you lay your head down to rest, can you pick a few nuggets that went really well today? Success!
