Weekend Rain

I was lying in bed Saturday morning listening to the rain pound on the roof. What I also heard was the sound of the water running down the gutters, as if I was on a water rafting ride, because the rain was so heavy at times.  We needed the rain to wash away the pollen and nourish our new spring vegetable garden.

Some people look at the rain on a Saturday as an inconvenience to their plans. Not me, I welcome it with open arms. I believe it comes on a weekend to remind us to slow down, take a break, evaluate the last few weeks.  Maybe wash away any troubles or mistakes we have made that are still haunting us, something I should not have said or something I failed to do.

As I slow down to the rainy day, I become calmer overall.  I notice even the girls are calmer on a rainy day – slow to get out of bed, eager to cuddle on the couch with a good show. I also notice I don’t feel guilty about staying put a little longer. There is a dance in my house and it is much slower on a rainy Saturday. I even found myself changing the Pandora station to jazz, cleaning with a different beat.

Life is all about attitude. We can choose to feel put out by the monsoon outside or we can welcome the slow day and take stock.
