Thankful and Blessed

The last two weeks don’t feel real if you are watching the news; all the destruction from the storms, thousands in shelters, and thousands without homes. If you are like me, as you are watching the news, it just can’t be real. But it is real, too real, and it is going to take a long time before many of the families impacted will have a regular schedule again.

I was not impacted by the storms, my life is the same but I have been more aware and have started practicing thankfulness in all I do. I realize, in my most stressful days at work or home, how lucky I am.

I find myself being more present than ever. I find myself appreciating even the small tasks I have to do – walk the trash to the curb, pack and make the lunches, put the wash away, the list goes on…..

I have been keeping the news on when the girls walk in the room, pointing out the devastation, reminding them to pray for those families. I have attempted to explain the situation for many little girls, who are their age, that have been impacted. It is hard to grasp, even for me, but when they see the homes and damage they understand it is scary and many people are hurting.

I encourage all of us to be more aware, thankful and recognize how blessed we are!  Chances are because we are present, thankful and feeling gratitude, it will rub off on those around us too.
