While at a client site for work this past weekend, I came across the following mission statement on a business man’s whiteboard.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style.”
The wheels in my head immediately started spinning.
Question 1- What is my mission in life?
I know it involves a little a sparkle; I want to inspire, keep a positive outlook, and make a difference in someone else’s life each day. With that, here goes:
My mission in life is to make a positive difference in someone else’s life each day, inspire others to be comfortable being themselves and lastly, I want to leave a little sparkle wherever I go.
Once I established my mission my mind started to wander.
Question 2- Does my mission align with how I disburse my energy each day?
This is an exercise I think everyone should do. The last question is just as important as the first question as it will quickly help you decide if you are living your life to the fullest. If the answer is no, it might be a good idea to revise your mission or determine what you are going to change to be able to walk the talk.
If I am honest with myself, I want to live my mission and most days I think I am but that is not enough for me. I want to get to a point where it is every day, naturally occurring. I am comfortable being me, but sometimes my head is so full with the busyness of life I don’t feel sparkly let alone leave sparkle for others. So, I am going to not be hard on myself about that, but instead be present and aware and continue to achieve my mission.
