Anyone who knows me knows I am a magazine junkie. One of my favorite things that some magazines publish, especially Oprah’s, are the pages that list out her favorite things. Chip and Joanna started doing the same as well in each Magnolia Journal. I thought since it is the holiday season, I would take a second and challenge you to think about your own list of favorite things.
Here goes, a list of some of my favorite things:
- My prayer blanket – I was experiencing some personal struggles a few months back and reached out to a dear friend, shared my struggles, and asked for prayers. Within a week, a package was delivered. It was a prayer shawl that her church community made and then said prayers over the blanket to provide the recipient with peace and comfort.
- Cuddle/movie time with the family on a Saturday night – There is something so safe about having a low-key day on a Saturday. Then looking forward to cuddling on the couch and watching a family movie.
- Time alone to read – As a working mom, it is very rare that I am ever home alone. When I am home alone, I attempt to savor every minute by sitting wrapped in a blanket reading.
- Friday afternoon Happy Hour with my dear friend, neighbor and editor – We both have demanding jobs and are moms to two little girls. Thankfully, the girls all adore each other and enjoy Friday Happy Hours as much as we do. (There is always chocolate, how can you blame them!) It is the perfect way to decompress, share some of the woes from the week and discuss the details of the weekend.
If you are honest with yourself, you will find many of your favorite things don’t cost a thing. If you are honest with those who love you, you might even get your favorite things and be even more fulfilled for it this holiday season.
