I am a firm believer that small gestures go a long way. Be aware of the small things you can do each week, either at work, at home or in your community that can make a difference.
A colleague at work once made fun of me for years because we had a management meeting to discuss how to change the culture within our team and my idea was, we should say hi to each other! So simple an idea but many coworkers, including management were not even taking the second to do that each day. And you know as well as I do, employees follow the lead of their management.
If you are meeting with a teammate and you set up the meeting asking them for a brain dump, not a two-way knowledge sharing session, do something nice for them. Buy them an iced tea or a coffee for their time. If you are lucky enough, the coffee shop attendee might know who you are meeting and the drink can be ready before your teammate arrives. Even better, it shows you care.
When you are walking into a building and see an older person coming up behind you, or even more likely, you passed them walking up to the door, stop for a breath and hold the door for them.
If you have a friend or neighbor who you completely adore, leave them a random note, letting them know you appreciate them. You will feel ten times more blessed writing that note than before you wrote it, but more importantly they will feel appreciated receiving the note.
It is the small gestures that make for a good day…. What are you are doing to make other days feel good?
