We recently subscribed to a meal plan website. You pay a fee and the site provides a full week of meals, including lunches and snacks. One of the benefits of the service is they provide the full grocery list either for each meal or for the whole week plan. You also get access to the full library of recipes if you want to swap something out.
At first, I had some anxiety about this new endeavor. I am not a cook, I don’t enjoy it and I don’t want to think about cooking as soon as I get home. I want to make the quickest, healthiest meal for the family and be done. The funniest thing happened though, I actually enjoyed the process. When I went to the grocery store, I was forced to slow down because I had to find items I was not used to buying. When I was cooking a meal, I had to slow down to read each section and prepare as they advised. This slowing down made me decompress, I could not think about what chores were waiting after dinner or what work I still needed to do once the girls were in bed.
And – the food was really good!
It has been a few weeks and I have made some of the recipes a few times because they were easy and good. I now look forward to reviewing the meal plan and heading to the store on the hunt for the week’s ingredients. If you are like me and on the fence of the extra work this might create, give it a trial run and see what happens, you might be surprised.
