Signs of Life

Remember that journal I found from 10 years ago? It looks like I also tracked from time to time Signs of Life: a meditative exercise I did in my office mid-day when the chaos in my mind became too much.  Let me share the signs of life from an entry.

  1. Pansies on the front porch
  2. My dogs breathing while sleeping
  3. Barking at the door
  4. Excitement for upcoming friends visiting

To make the four items come to life for you, let me share where I am. At the time I worked out of my house, had two dogs and when I would mediate, I sat in a chair that overlooked my front porch.

The exercise – take 5 long breaths with your eyes closed, let all the noise in your mind escape you. Once you feel settled, just sit. Sit and be mindful of where your mind wanders, what you see, what you hear and what you feel. Sit for at least five minutes or, if you can, sit longer.

When I look back, it appears many of my Signs of Life were also things that brought me joy.  Find out if the same happens to you.
