My brother in law is heading out of the country again on another 9-month deployment. This time is extra hard because he is the dad of sweet Gwen, who is only 3 months old. He will miss many firsts, including any holiday from mid-October through July. My sister was really bummed about it, and I suggested what I thought could solve the problem even for a few hours.
Enjoy all the holidays in one night with the family. Halloween where everyone comes dressed up, and we even have a trick or treating house to visit. For extra fun, we will all bob for apples. Thanksgiving where my mom makes her famous kugel and mashed potatoes. Christmas, with gifts or tokens of love, and then ending the night with Valentines, which includes chocolate-covered strawberries and Mel’s must-have brownies. Each holiday will be celebrated in a different room in my house. I imagine this memory to be magical in the end.
Clearly, we can’t age Gwen over the course of our Holidays in a Day event, but at least we will all share the moments together the first time and capture some love before he leaves.
Everyone needs prayers in life so if you have room on your list, please pray for Mel’s strength as she embarks on being a single mom for a period of time. And please pray that Paul enjoys his journey and gets home safe.
I love you and your beautiful heart!
What a wonderful way to enjoy life with those that matter when it matters most!
Love every piece of this!! You and your family are precious! Sending strength to Mel and Paul while he’s away. 💕
