Narrative of Success

It is my birthday weekend. Ever notice that the older you get; it is like a math problem to remember how old you are? This year is like many where I have personal things I wanted to accomplish before the big day, more on that in a bit, but this year is a bit different too.  I have finally accepted myself entirely for who I am, what I want, what makes me tick, and I am only pursuing those things. It is extremely liberating.

The Accomplishments:

So, before this birthday, I wanted to see if I had the ability to pause on enjoying wine for 28 days.  As someone who likes to have a glass of wine after work, or out with friends, I thought it was a great challenge and one I never tried.  It was not easy, some days were fine, but some days were a huge challenge….like the day J brought 8 bottles of wine home because they were on sale, or the night we had dinner with a dear friend and he brought a bottle of Prosecco because I love it.  Each time I rejected the temptation, I felt better for it.

I also wanted to find the perfect balance of working out without getting fatigued. Either pushing myself so hard that I stop altogether or having a workout routine that I am tired of doing and so I stop. I accomplished this too. I found a workout routine where I appreciated the results I was seeing, and it was pushing me differently each time I did it. I also learned my body can’t do a workout daily. So, I committed to working out every other day and have stayed on track all year.

Have you established your narrative of success? If not, no time like the present. (it is a gift)
