It is a funny thing how we can get in our own heads, wanting to compare our progress to others. It is not healthy mentally to put yourself in that position because you cannot win someone else’s race. It is just not how it works.
When I left my previous company, some thought I was crazy because I was leaving a secure company, with a great title and I had been there for over 20 years. How would I build those types of connections, win confidence in a new group of people, and get my well-deserved title back?
I will tell you how….
- My mom always told me I could do or have anything I wanted if I worked for it. And I have also believed that!
- I was determined to bring my best at this company: be the hardest worker, the kindest person, supportive to others and bring along the ability to grind it out each day, even weekends.
And 2.5 years later, guess what, I got my well-deserved title back! More importantly, in the process, I found my people, a company that really sees my value, where I belong. I can apply all those 20 years of experience each day, sharing with my teams what I have seen in my career, sharing successes and failures along the way to enrich our experience as well.
If I had decided to listen to others, tell me the race I should be running, who knows if I would feel as grateful or blessed as I do each day. Now don’t get me wrong, this is just the next phase of this job. My passion, hard work, along with the commitment must continue, and it will, because knowing I am exactly where I belong fuels me to do more and be better each day.
Follow your journey, listen to your gut, get what you want, don’t run someone else’s race!
Congrats Again! You earned it. xoxo
One of my favorite quotes of all time:
“Life itself is a race, marked by a start, and a finish. It is what we learn during the race, and how we apply it, that determines whether our participation has had particular value. If we learn from each success, and each failure, and improve ourselves through this process, then at the end, we have fulfilled our potential and performed well.“

To me it means, run your race. I’ll run mine.
So true…So proud of you!
