Marigolds

We live in a region that is overpopulated with deer.   The deer come right up to your front door and if there are flowers in pots, they help themselves.   It has become a joke with J and I, how much money did I spend on deer food, because anything planted outside will soon be gone.  I read that marigolds keep the deer away, but I never wanted to buy them. The strong smell of marigolds was always an instant trigger, bringing me right back to my childhood where I spent every summer. For a very long time, I didn’t want to remember, whether the memories were good or bad. That is what we do as humans, when we have unresolved feelings, we avoid.

The place I am in now is a peaceful place, of my past and present. It is a level of acceptance that is somewhat calming. I can’t change the past, all I can do is learn from it and appreciate the experiences, whether good or bad because it all brought me here today.

Yellow! I brought a bunch of yellow marigolds to put around my plants. They remind me of sunshine and sand. They make me smile when I water them too, all my plants are intact and I am reminded of how blessed I am!
