Disappointment

It is a funny thing, when you get an opportunity to do something you have wanted and dreamed about, the sense of gratitude is overwhelming. You almost live on a little cloud and have chills-like sensations recalling the invitation. You begin to visualize how you anticipate the opportunity to go, the success it will be, and the excitement for the outcome. If it requires practice, you practice like it is a job, ensuring you don’t skip a beat.  And then……

You also have nervous energy like it is too good to be true, yes you have worked for it and you want it, but is this really happening?  For reasons you will never know, you are not offered the opportunity in the end, even though you appeared to be the right choice. The final invitation doesn’t come to you but to others who didn’t work as hard or who don’t realize how special an invitation.

I am confident you can relate to what I am saying, you might have one or two examples in your own life where I just recaptured a situation. When this happens, we talk a lot in my house about how you show up in the yucky feelings because that is all you can control.

Do you feel disappointed? Absolutely! Do you wish it were different? For sure! Do you have a moment of sadness? How could you not.  What you don’t do is fix your eyes on any of that for long, let the emotion in, and release it out. You must know in your gut there is a lesson in it, and there must be something better in the plan next. For me, I call it building grit, resilience, and the desire to continue forward for excellence.

Regardless of your age, 13 or 50 years old, being grateful for even the wink of the opp is a learned practice. With anything in life, practice is important.
