Review Season, at work, is upon us. I enjoy the process, but then again, I truly take feedback as a gift. You can’t upskill if you are not aware of all your weaknesses. A better way to say weakness is those skills you are working on mastering.
I am an avid reader, I read business books, self-help books and also those rom-coms based on a beach, either in Nantucket or some other little magical town. I have a hard time getting rid of my books, as I see them each as a treasure. Many of my books are read again or used as reference.
When my employees share a skill they want to get better at in the coming year, I first jump for joy, I appreciate the desire to improve oneself, and then I run to my many book shelves and find them the perfect gift to consume. Throughout the year, I will ask them about the book, the skill they are working on and then provide feedback on what I am seeing and agree on next steps.
I should go on record and tell you I also listen to few business podcasts. What I notice for myself, and imagine is not unique to me, if you are not feeding your mind, your own thoughts and ideas can become stale. All the information I consume sparks a thought, an idea, a new process, or an affirmation on my growth.
So, if you are looking to upskill, broaden your thinking- Run to the bookstore, library or search for the perfect podcast.
