“Trust is believing in the honesty and reliability of others. This is very important when working with other people.”
Would you believe me if I told you that sentence about trust, along with many other key characteristics we want for ourselves and our kids, can be found on a chain restaurant children’s menu? Some of the other characteristics were accountability, caring, humility, and integrity. Under each there was a definition of the word and an activity. Our favorite activity was the one under the word “Trust”. This small exercise took up most of our dinner chatter and it was very welcoming for Jarrod and I. He and Deanna sat on one side of the table, Delaney and I on the other side, going through other words that describe trust. At the end, we compared notes and talked through our words. The word “TRUST” was written down the page, each new word we created had to start with a letter in the column.
T truth T truthful
R real R responsible
U understanding U unique
S sincere S self-control
T transparent T tutu
The first column is Jarrod and Deanna’s and the second column is my and Delaney’s column. They are both really good. (Side note: If you wearing a tutu, you trust your own instincts in my opinion.J) Life is busy; time with the kids to have this type of conversation is sometimes planned and scripted. Maybe it happens when they disappoint us or when someone lets them down.
How about have fun with it? Head over to your local Firebirds restaurant and enjoy the same conversation with your kids. While you are there, enjoy my favorite Caesar Salad with Shrimp! I mean, they chill the plate and the fork – how could that not be yummy?!
