You might have noticed this week and next is said to be the darkest weeks of the virus. My dear friend Karen McWilliams and I had a conversation that was so filled with emotion and reflection, I asked her if she would be a guest blogger this week.
The coincidental timing of this week does not escape me … This is the week our government leaders have asked us to “brace for impact”. Their words are painting a picture of true darkness and isolation, and death upon many.
This week is also the darkest week in the life of a Christian. The story, our story is one of our Lord walking among His people, on His path to death. Yet….there is love in His heart and forgiveness in His heart. Up to his very last earthy word… “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
There is so much to contemplate, but this I know for certain. God is not punishing his people. Yet, there are lessons in the midst of COVID. I believe we are being asked, the world is being asked to listen, to transform. This learning applies to ALL of us. Surely “they” should repent….the ones that cause harm. The liars, the thieves, the terrorists that live only to destroy. Surely “they” should repent…the ones that use their hands to bring harm to others. But….what do I need to change? Yes, we ALL must get the lesson. Sin is the same in the eyes of the Lord, and I believe his message is one that is asking us to pause. Pause to reflect, to listen, to transform. Transform in the way He is asking us to. And during these very darkest of days, to keep love and forgiveness alive in our hearts, especially as we move through this week and summon the courage to respond.
