The dog

Ever wonder what your kids are learning from watching you, not what you talk about or teach them but what they watch you do and mimic?

Today is Penelope’s 6th birthday. Last Friday, as we were talking about it, Deanna decides we should throw her a birthday party.  Her eyes light up and you can feel the excitement of the wheels turning in her head.  We agree, she can throw a party. Later that night, J and I are discussing how it will be interesting to see what she creates. Sure, she has been going to parties for 10 years, but I never actually outlined the planning of the party, from invites to food to decorating and timing.

Within two hours she had filled the Amazon cart with napkins, plates, streamers, giveaways for the kids and adults, games to play, all color-coded and within the theme. She had the food planned, shared all the people I needed to text, as we didn’t have time for formal invitations, and even reminded me I will need to make a Starbucks run prior to the party for Penelope’s puppachino.

As each Amazon package arrived this week, her eyes would perk up with excitement. As each day passed, she asked about the expected arrival of items not here yet and RSVP’s in. Tonight, we have over 25 people coming to celebrate our dog’s big day and I can honestly say, she did an expectational job. Hopefully, her clean-up efforts are just as stellar as the planning and setup.
